You’re Invited: Fuzhou America’s Year of the Horse Banquet (Sat, 2/21)

Growing up, Lunar New Year wasn’t just a holiday. It was a feeling. It was the sound of relatives greeting each other in crowded living rooms, the clinking of wine cups, and food that always tasted like home. For a lot of us in the Fuzhou America community, it was also one of the few times our parents could actually take time off from work. This Year of the Horse, we’re inviting you to come back to that feeling.

Many of us were raised in a culture where working hard and achieving came first. There wasn’t much time to slow down or talk about how we were really doing. A lot went unsaid, and a lot was carried quietly. We didn’t always have space to ask big questions like, “What am I working toward?” or “What do I actually want?”

Fuzhou America started as a place to play. It was something many of us didn’t have growing up. A place to be around people who shared similar experiences, where you didn’t have to explain yourself or try to fit in. Over time, it became more than that. It became a space where people could vent, ask hard questions, and have conversations that are sometimes hard to have at home or anywhere else.

The Fuzhou America Year of the Horse Banquet is a chance to gather in that same spirit. To sit together, eat together, and reconnect. This year feels especially meaningful. The ongoing immigration crisis continues to affect our community in real and painful ways, from families living with uncertainty to people dealing with fear, separation, and instability. In moments like this, being together matters. Sharing a meal and showing up for one another is a simple but powerful way to say we care.

In that spirit, 10% of ticket sales will be donated to organizations working to protect Asian immigrants and their families.

If you’re receiving this invitation, it means you’ve already been part of our community. Maybe you came to an event, supported our work, or showed up in some way before. This banquet is an invitation to come back, to take a seat at the table, and to remind ourselves that we don’t have to carry everything alone
